A showcase of the work of students from the MA in Economics with local industry will be held in UCC today (Wednesday 20/3) from 1-3pm.

To survive the recession, smart businesses and development agencies understand the need to research competitiveness and innovation opportunities.

One such business, the PM Group, the successful Irish multinational project management company, has sponsored projects by UCC Economics postgraduates to help them research industries such as ‘personal care’ in China and India and ‘medical devices’ in the USA.  In addition, a forward thinking development agency, the West Cork Development Partnership, has sponsored students of the MA Economics at UCC to help them promote innovation among client businesses.

These projects are being presented at the MA Economics Research Showcase today from 1pm to 3 pm in the Aras Na Laoi Common Room in UCC (off Gaol walk) – parking in Perrot’s Inch car park nearby.

The MA Economics is a unique postgraduate programme that serves as a bridge between academia and industry.  By delivering projects to prominent organizations, students develop communication and teamwork skills alongside  the practical application of economics to solve real business problems.  Despite the recession, 80% of recent MA Economics graduates have found employment within a year of graduation [see more about the programme at www.maeconomicscork.com].
