Professor Jim Deegan of Mary Immaculate College, Limerick will give a public lecture on Writing themselves back: developing the emotional self in becoming a teacher on Friday, February 20th, at 7.30pm in Brookfield Health Science Complex G02, UCC.
This lecture will discuss how teacher-writer memoirs by John Mc Gahern, Bryan Mac Mahon and Frank McCourt helped to open a black box of student teachers’ emotions and identities in a primary teacher education programme. Dr Jim Deegan is professor in the Department of Learning, Society and Religious Education and Director of Postgraduate Studies in Education at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. He was formerly Associate Professor of Teacher Education, University of Georgia, Athens, USA.
