07.03.2008

UCC’s Annual Faculty of Science Public Lecture Series is running very successfully again this year.  These lectures are now routinely filmed and are posted for public viewing on the UCC TV section of the UCC website.
But, they can be accessed most easily by through the UCC Public Understanding of Science website.  Simply open this site at http://understandingscience.ucc.ie scroll to the bottom of the home page and click on the link to the films.

The films cover a wide range of topical subjects, including – Ethical Issues of Stem Cell Research, Nuclear Energy, Biodiversity and Climate Change, Science and Religion, Peak Oil, Renewable Energy, Mental Illness, Climate Change, Autism, Health Effects of Radiation, Cancer Facts and Fables, Science Under the Nazis, Stress, Evolution vs Intelligent Design, Alzheimer’s Disease, Obesity, Alternative Medicine, Probiotics.

All speakers in this series are experts in their own fields.  These films are not only of general interest but schools should find them particularly valuable for stimulating student interest in science and for initiating student debate in Transition Year for example.

The Public Lecture Series is organised by Professor William Reville, Public Awareness of Science Officer, UCC.  The lectures are held on Wednesday evenings at 8.00p.m. in Boole 4 Lecture Theatre.  The programme of lectures is posted on http://understandingscience.ucc.ie
