PRTLI4 Funded PhD Scholarships (Three) in the Social Sciences
Applications are invited for three, three-year funded PhD Scholarships based in the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences in UCC. The scholarships are funded under the fourth Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions as part of a collaborative, inter-institutional initiative – the Irish Social Sciences Platform – that incorporates UCC-based Social Science research, including the project on the Social, Economic and Cultural Transformation of Contemporary Ireland (SECTRA).
Applications for post-graduate research that build on one of the following themes in the social sciences are invited:
- Migration
- Intimate Relations
- Citizenship
The studentships will commence from October 1st 2008 and each student will receive a scholarship of €20,000 per year (inclusive of fees). The three successful candidates will be based in a newly proposed UCC social science research centre – the Institute for Social Science in the 21st Century (ISS21) - and will be expected to participate in the Institute’s research programme, including its Graduate Research Education Programme (GREP).
The successful candidates should hold a first or upper second class honours degree in a social science discipline. A relevant Master’s degree and/or the completion of research methods training at Master’s level will be advantageous.
Applications should include: a curriculum vitae giving full details of qualifications and experience; a written statement of interest/motivation (1000 words); a research proposal including research question, theoretical framework and methodology (2,000 words); two letters of academic recommendation; and certified copies of undergraduate and post-graduate transcripts. Closing date for applications: Friday June 6th, 2008.
