MSc Studentship (EmNets), Department of Computer Science
The Mobile & Internet Systems Laboratory (MISL) conducts basic and applied research in computer networking for mobile/wireless and multimedia systems. Led by Prof. Sreenan, the laboratory is supported externally by several Irish and international companies, Enterprise Ireland, the EU and Science Foundation Ireland.
MISL has an established international reputation for its research on wireless sensor networks and was recently awarded a research grant for the project “Embedded Wireless Sensor Networks – EmNets”. This is funded by Enterprise Ireland under the auspices of the WISEN Industry-Led Research Programme, and will be undertaken in collaboration with the Adaptive Wireless Systems group at Cork Institute of Technology.
Applications are now invited for the above MSC Studentship (EmNets)
The holder of the studentship will be expected to pursue research on the topic of middleware for wireless sensor networks. Applicants should hold a good honours undergraduate degree in computer science/engineering, and be able to demonstrate an aptitude for programming and an interest in experimental systems research.
The successful applicant will receive total funding of Euro20,500 per annum for two years and is responsible for paying fees. The 2006/07 fees are not yet known, but as a guideline the 2005/06 fee for an EU student was Euro3675. Postdoctoral Fellowship, BioSciences Institute & Cork University Hospital
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Cell Biology Laboratory to work on the actions of the newly described co-stimulatory TIM-1 (T Cell Ig Mucin) molecule. This collaborative project is based on initial studies carried out at the Transplantation Research Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital, Boston and is aimed at understanding the signalling responses elicited by TIM-1 in T cell subsets as well as its role in experimental allograft rejection. The project will be based in the Cell Biology Laboratory in the UCC BioScience Institute. (http://www.ucc.ie/ucc/depts/biochemistry/staff/roc.html)
We are seeking motivated candidates with a PhD and training in immunology, biochemistry, or related fields.
