Laboratory / Field Research Assistant, HYDROMET
LABORATORY / FIELD RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Status: 18 months from April 2007
Closing Date: F riday 16 March, 2007
Salary: Up to €35,000 per annum (plus pension contribution of 13.5% of salary).
The Hydromet Research Centre has a range of research projects in the fields of atmospheric science, hydrology, ecosystems modelling and soil science. To support this research a Research Assistant is required to assist with installation of field instrumentation, collection of air samples, operation and maintenance of a gas chromatography system, and maintenance of field instrumentation when necessary.
The successful candidate will have:
- A third level qualification in Applied Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Instrumentation, Environmental Science or a related discipline, with a strong practical capability and an efficient approach to laboratory work.
- Experience of laboratory or field equipment such as gas chromatographs, data acquisition systems and data communications.
- IT and programming skills (e.g. one or more of Visual Basic, assembler, Matlab, Labview, IDL/ENVI, C/++, FORTRAN or Java)
- A full clean driving licence is desirable.
