Hosting Agreements
Hosting Agreements
The hosting agreement replaces the need for work permits for the following category of staff; Researchers Academic Staff involved in research.
In order to be eligible for a hosting agreement the proposed employee must meet the below criteria:
- A non-EU/EEA national with the appropriate higher education qualification (e.g., a PhD or MSc) that entitles you to access doctoral programmes.
- Hold a research contract of employment with an accredited research active organisation or university/IoT in Ireland for a minimum of 3 months.
- Salary is at least €23,181 per annum if no dependants in Ireland, or €30,000 if spouse and/or children in Ireland.
- Have health insurance
Hosting Agreements are a quick and cost effective form of work authorisations - there is no approval process or fee (however the researcher must still pay €300 to register with the immigration authorities each year) The hosting agreement is valid for the duration of the employment contract.

How long will the Hosting Agreement take to proess? | Please allow up to two weeks for processing. |
Can I bring my family with me? | Yes. You can include your spouse, de-fact partner, and your children on the Hosting Agreement form. |
Do I need a Visa? | Nationals of certain countries require an entry visa to Ireland in addition to a Hosting Agreement. Please see our Visa section for more informiton. |
Can my Hosting Agreement be extended? | Yes, the duration of your Hosting Agreement is linked to your employment contract. Please contact hrresearchqueries@ucc.ie |
