Call for Papers – 2017/18 Edition

The Government and Politics Society are now seeking article proposals for our online journal, Government and Politics Review. The 2017/18 edition will be published online in April 2018.

Government and Politics Review provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to have their work peer reviewed and published. Writing for the journal provides invaluable practice for dissertations and also demonstrates a commitment to academic research and the discipline of political science.

The theme of the 2017/18 journal is: ‘New Politics for a New Age’.

The following is an indicative list of topics, chosen to reflect significant areas in current political discourses.   This list provides a general overview but is not considered to be exhaustive. Research which falls outside of the list below is also very welcome and will be considered for publication;

• The year of Trump

• Brexit

• Populism on the rise

• International security

• Globalisation of today

• The power of multinational companies

• Political developments in Northern Ireland

• Gender inequality in the 21st Century

• The role of global institutions

• The changing face of the Left

• Economic inequality in society

• Impact of Brexit on Ireland

• Europe's response to the Refugee Crisis

• The New Cold War

• North Korea

• Chinese hegemony in the near future

Article proposals are now sought for the 2017/18 issue and should be submitted before 22 January 2018. Please submit proposals to the editor, Evan Barry-Colnat at governmentpoliticsreviewucc@gmail.com Proposals should be 250-300 words. Feedback and notification of acceptance of the proposal will be supplied within a month of initial submission. 

A full draft of the article will need to be submitted by 1 March 2018. Thereafter for articles that are accepted, there will be a process of revision and copyediting.

Articles will normally be 3,000 – 4,000 words in length and should consist of a clear research question, review of the existing literature, empirical evidence and conclusions tied into the theme of ‘New Politics for a New Age’.  

Single author or multi-authored pieces are encouraged. Submissions are welcome from any student who is studying Government and Politics at University College Cork (UCC).  International students, spending a full semester or more at UCC, are encouraged to submit to the journal.  The editorial board is particularly interested in papers which draw from high quality assignment work from previous years or in the current session.
