Working with the School of Education
Our Strategy and Vision
The School of Education has been providing high quality teachers to the Irish Education system for over 115 years. It has a suite of eleven programmes, four at undergraduate level and seven at postgraduate level. It is a trusted teacher education provider with 86 partner schools and 100+ placement partners. Our graduates are loyal and return again and again to avail of the suite of programmes along the Continuum of Teacher Education and the Continuum of Professional Learning. Our staff are highly regarded research active practitioners who enjoy inspiring the current and next generation of educators. They are supported in this work by an excellent team of Administration staff.
Informed by the UCC strategy and UCC Academic Strategy, our Mission is:
in order to empower teachers to educate young people to thrive and flourish in an uncertain world, we will continue to build on the School of Education’s position as a local, national and international beacon of high-quality research-informed, and practice-led professional learning across the continuum of teacher education.
Our Strategy has five key priorities, namely:
School Structure
The structure of the School of Education is organised with the student at the centre, and the three strategic committees feeding into the student experience. The next layer are all of the eleven programmes and the outermost layer is the School Senior Management Team (SMT), the newly configured School of Education Development Committee (SOEDC), and the School of Education Student Forum (SOESF), which both serve in an advisory capacity in relation to School of Education Strategy. Finally, the Administration Team, who support all activities of the School. To support the work of the School, but not represented in the diagram, we also have Operational Committees (Graduate Studies Committee, Ethics Committee and Programme Teaching Teams) and Operational Working Groups which address specific issues (New Avenues to Teaching Steering Group; Placement System Working Group; ITE Undergraduate Working Group; and Academic Staff Workload Working Group).
