This talk will question the notion of creative potential, one of the most common concepts within the psychology of creativity. While the idea of potentiality has a lot to offer in philosophical terms, psychology has historically turned this notion into a reified, static, and artificial construct by embedding it within isolated minds and brains. I will argue here for the reframing of potential as possibility and, particularly, as possibilities in plural. This reconceptualisation requires us to bring back objects, bodies, spaces and places, culture, society, and politics, within our discussions of creativity. It also requires us, fundamentally, to move from intra-personal creative thinking to distributed creative action. In this talk, I will explore such a shift in terms of its theoretical basis, empirical support, and practical implications.
