William McCarthy successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "An Evaluation of Orogenic Kinematic Evolution Utilizing Crystalline and Magnetic Anisotropy in Granitoids" on 30th July.

This project was supervised by Dr John Reavy, the External Examiner was Professor Brendan Murphy from St Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Nova Scotia and the internal examiner was Dr Pat Meere. 

William was offered a one year post as  Visiting Professor in Highlands University New Mexico, USA  and started there in early August.
