Orla O’Sullivan
Biography
Orla O’Sullivan is a Research Fellow in Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark. Orla graduated from UCC with a BSc in Biochemistry and subsequently a PhD in Bioinformatics. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Conway Institute, UCD Orla joined Teagasc where she has worked on many exciting projects including the long-term ELDERMET project. She was awarded an SFI Starting Investigator Research Grant and the APC junior scientist of the year in 2014. Orla has a H-Index of 43 with 9,720 citations. In 2018 Orla was named by Clarivate Analytics as a Highly Cited Researcher.
Her research focuses on elucidating the microbiome from various environments including human gut and lung, rumen and food. Of particular interest to her is the role of exercise and diet, specifically whey protein, on the human gut microbiome both in healthy and diseased cohorts. Orla also has a keen interest in Science communication and sits on the education and outreach committee of the APC.
