Caoimhe Byrne
Biography
Caoimhe joined APC Microbiome Ireland in May 2022 as the Centre’s Education and Public Engagement Manager. Caoimhe leads the public engagement programme at APC with the aim of promoting microbiome research locally, nationally, and internationally. Caoimhe has a BSc in Genetics and holds a MSc in Science Communication and Public Engagement from the University of Edinburgh. She has been involved in science outreach in Australia, Scotland, and Ireland since 2013. Having worked predominantly in the tertiary education and research sector, Caoimhe has led several public engagement programmes and communication campaigns to promote science and research to school students, patients, and the wider community.
Caoimhe has completed the Irish Universities Association Campus Engage Course, Engaged Research & Innovation For Societal Impact: Building Capacity Across Ireland in 2023 which sought to embed trained facilitators across research-hosting organisations in Ireland. Badged facilitators have a key role in leading engaged research projects within their institution, building capacity for engaged research as part of their remit, and supporting researchers in maximising the impact from engaged research efforts.
