Course Outline

This module aims to help students develop a range of practical skills that can help enhance their performance at work including communication skills, teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. The objective is to build students’ capacity to promote positive change and growth for both individuals (e.g. resilience, increased capabilities, awareness of emotional intelligence) and the organisation.

Course Practicalities

The programme will be delivered online over 10 weeks from September to November, including one day at our UCC campus. Classes include interactive work and associated reading and learning activities.  

Additionally, students will engage in two, one hour coaching sessions to enhance learning and deepen understanding of course work and its relation to the world of work.

Why Choose This Course

This module aims to provide a structured learning opportunity to develop professional knowledge and skills in order to better equip learners for their current or future roles. The module will introduce students to key ideas in the domains of interpersonal, team and leadership dynamics in organisations. The key focus will be on applying such ideas to working collaboratively and productively with others. The module will scaffold key skills in areas such as communication, decision-making, and problem-solving. The focus on practical skills will be framed/contextualised within contemporary views of leadership and change in organisations. 

 

Additionally, coaching features in the course, ensuring and providing auxiliary support, in small groups to improve and enhance work-based performance, increase well-being, harness, and apply personal strengths, embrace adaptability, achieve goals and build resilience in working with changed and changing work practices. 

Requirements

Applications will be accepted from candidates who: 

  • Are over 21 years of age by 1 January of the year of application  

AND  

  • Hold a level 6 qualification or equivalent.  

OR  

  • Have a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience as deemed appropriate by the programme Academic Director.  
  • English Language Requirement: All applicants whose first language is not English are expected to have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, with no individual section lower than 6.0. 

Fees and Costs

Standard fee: €1,000 

This programme is HCI funded. Eligible applicants may apply for this funding which will cover 50% of the course fees. You can see eligibility criteria here. 

Please note funding for this programme is limited and early application is advised.  

 

How To Apply

Before applying applicants need to be aware of the IT student checklist below before applying:

  • You will need access to a laptop or desktop computer running a modern supported operating system with all software updates.
  • Some of UCC’s services (e.g. the Canvas Virtual Learning Environment) link to an external site and also have mobile apps for iOS and Android Devices that you may wish to use as part of your studies.  However, we recommend using your desktop web browser for submission of assessments.
  • You should always use the most current version of your preferred browser. In general, we recommend the Chrome Web browser (Important Note: Internet Explorer will not work with Canvas).
  • We recommend a reliable broadband connection with at least 7Mbps or more.
  • You will require an Office suite of software (Microsoft Office or equivalent) and a PDF reader. You should always use the latest version of this software.  All UCC students will have access to Office 365 which includes software such as Word/Excel/Powerpoint etc. once registered.

On the 2nd tab Academic Level 
 
Select the following options:
 
Academic Level: Adult Continuing Education (ACE at UCC)
Course Type:  Microcredentials
Academic Programme: The course title you are applying for.

During your online application you will be required to upload the following documents:

  • Proof of Identity e.g. Birth Cert or Passport
  • Application Statement 
  • HCI Subsidy Form
  • English Language Test Report [if applicable]
  • 50% of the fees are also required to complete your application. 

HCI Funding:

  • Please note there are two options to choose from when applying. If you choose the HCI funding option you will be asked to confirm your eligibility. Please note this does not guarantee that you will be awarded this funding. You will still need to pay the 50% fee up front and our finance team can provide invoices should this be paid by your company. 
 

Non-HCI Funding:

  • Please note there are two options to choose from when applying. If you choose the non-HCI funding option you will be able to a.) pay your fees b.) fill out the company sponsorship form which will go to your company for payment.
