The latest action from UCC Hockey.

Irish Junior Cup

The Division 2 side had a great win against Pegasus in the quarter final of the Irish Junior Cup on Saturday in the Mardyke. It was a close encounter with Pegasus putting on the pressure in the early stages of the game. Some crucial saves from Joy O Kelly allowed the student side to settle and their game improved as the match progressed. Some clear cut chances were missed by UCC but in the final quarter a run by Siri Forde from the right and a cross to Sophia O Shea in THE circle who connected to score a cracker giving UCC the only goal of the game. A very close game but the Cork side had the edge and made it count on the final whistle. UCC will play in the Mardyke against Dublin side Loreto in the semi final on the 16th March.

EYHL2

The Division 1 side travelled to Muckross in the EYHL2. A win would mean a semi final place in the play offs. Muckross were first to score in the first quarter with a cross from Emma Matthews and touched in by Nancy Browne. UCC replied with an individual goal from Robyn Murphy, 1-1 HT. Muckross took the lead again in the 3rd quarter with a goal from Daisy Costello. As the game approached the end of Q3 Jane Murphy scored from a rebound from a corner. The game remained at 2-2 at the final whistle. The first points dropped by the students in this league but with 2 games to play in the group stages the student are hopeful of a semi final spot. Cork Harlequins had a 3-0 win over Belfast Harlequins, they currently top the other group and are on track to book their semi final place.

Division 3 Munster League

The Division 3 side had an early game on Saturday playing C of I at 10.30am in the Mardyke. Both teams are competing for 3rd place in the league and a possible play off for promotion. The students were 2-0 down at half time against a strong C of I side. UCC didn't give up and battled, a great run up the right wing from Claire Jermyn who crossed to Laura Barr and slotted it in. 1-2, game on ! The students continued to press and Katie O Keeffe scored in the final quarter, 2-2. At the final whistle the score remained 2-2 giving UCC a crucial point in the league and showing huge character to come back from being 2-0 down.

A day of rest for everyone with no games on Sunday !
