UCC Hockey Newsletter – December Update

17 Dec 2025

Season Wrap-Up
Last weekend marked the end of this side of the season for most of our teams, with plenty of action across the board:

  • Women’s Division 1: A dominant 5-0 win away to Waterford HC keeps momentum high. Next up is a crucial clash this Saturday, 20th December, against arch-rivals Cork Harlequins, tip off 12pm in the Mardyke. Harlequins trail by six points, and a win here would give the students a huge confidence boost heading into the EYHL Division 2 league — still awaiting its schedule.
  • Men’s 1sts: Faced Waterford HC in a tough encounter, falling 4-2 despite some strong passages of play. They now await confirmation of their league placement in the new year.
  • Division 7: In a goal-filled contest, the side lost 5-3 to Nenagh. They are 4th in the league table.
  • Division 3A: A top-of-the-table clash in Limerick ended in a 4-2 victory, leaving the team sitting proudly at the top going into the Christmas break.
  • Division 3B: Battled miserable conditions in Bandon but came away with a 2-0 defeat. They’ll need a strong start in the new year to steer clear of relegation. They are currently 2nd off the bottom of the table.

Sunday:
Bad weather forced the postponement of the men’s fixture against C of I E, adding to the anticipation for their return in January.

League Leaders
We’re proud to announce that our Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3A teams are all top of their respective leagues going into the Christmas break — a fantastic achievement for a college side and a testament to the hard work of players and coaches alike.

International Stars Return
We’re delighted to welcome back Eabha Curran and Robyn Murphy from the Junior World Cup, where they finished 13th out of 24 teams. Both players are available for Saturday’s big game against Cork Harlequins — a fantastic boost for the squad!

Thank You & Festive Wishes
UCC Hockey would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners and sponsors for their incredible support throughout the year. A special thank you to UCC Sport, whose continued backing makes everything possible.

Happy Christmas to all our members, coaches, volunteers, and supporters. Here’s to an exciting and successful 2026!
