UCC Hockey Club Newsletter – January Update

The women’s 1sts closed out 2025 in style with a dominant 5–1 win over Harlequins in their last Munster league game before the Christmas break. They now look forward to the start of their EYHL2 campaign, kicking off at home against Belfast Harlequins on Saturday, 31st January at 1:00 pm. Unfortunately, they will be without Robyn Murphy for the rest of the season as she heads abroad on placement. Both Robyn Murphy and Eabha Curran did UCC Hockey proud when they represented Ireland at the Junior World Cup in Chile before Christmas.

On the men’s side, the team competed in the Munster Indoor Championships for the third consecutive year but missed out on advancing to the final stages. The women’s indoor team could not field a side this year due to the early date in the new year.

The first match of 2026 will be on Saturday, 17th January, when the Division 1 women’s team will play Waterford in the Munster Senior Cup at home, tip-off at 12:45 pm.

Also on Saturday, 17th January, the Division 3A women’s team take on Tipperary at home, tip-off at 3:00 pm. They’ve had a fantastic first half of the season and will be looking to build on that momentum. However, they will be without Emma Nolan for the remainder of the season as she is abroad on Erasmus—such is the nature of a student side.

On Sunday, 18th January, the Division 2 women’s team will face Clonakilty at the Mardyke at 12:00 pm. This team has also enjoyed a strong first half of the season and received great news with their entry into the Examiner Cup—a competition they won last year.

All other women’s teams will return to action the following weekend, while the men will resume play on Sunday, 1st February, competing in the Division 2 league for the rest of the season—a key goal set before the Christmas break.

It’s shaping up to be a busy few months, with hockey action running right through to the end of April. Best of luck to all our teams as they kick off the second half of the season!
