Last weekend marked the conclusion of the Munster League matches.
Division 2, having already secured the league title a few weeks ago, played their final game against Belvedere and came away with a dominant 3-0 victory. It has been an impressive season for them, and they now look ahead to the Munster Div 2 Cup Final and the Cork Examiner Cup Final later this month.
Division 3 traveled to Cashel New Inn for their last match of the season. Despite Cashel New Inn fielding just 10 players, they put up a strong fight. It wasn't until the second half that the student side scored their first goal, but with a squad of 18, they eventually secured a comfortable 4-0 win.
Division 4, still in the hunt for the league title, needed a win and hoped for a slip-up from Tipperary against Crescent. The students triumphed 3-0, ending their season on a high note. However, Tipperary won 2-0 against Crescent, claiming the league title and earning promotion to Division 3.
Both Division 3 and Division 4 teams finished in second place in their respective leagues and will now compete in play-off games for promotion next weekend.
In the EYHL, UCC faced league leaders Loreto in the Mardyke on Saturday, under sunny but windy conditions. Loreto needed a win to seal the title, and despite a strong defensive effort from UCC, it took until the third quarter for Loreto to break the deadlock. A second goal in the final quarter confirmed Loreto’s league victory. UCC, however, put up a solid performance and now look forward to their final game of the season next Saturday against Ards. With Ards just ahead of UCC in the standings, a win would offer some consolation in what has otherwise been a frustrating season for the team.
