It was an unforgettable weekend for UCC Hockey, with four teams contesting cup finals—a remarkable achievement and a reflection of a season built on hard work, commitment, and togetherness across the club.

Division 3 Women – Munster Cup Winners (Three-in-a-Row)

First up were the Division 3 women, coached by Jim White, who arrived at the Munster Cup final already having secured the league title and the Combined Cup. Having won the Munster Cup last season, the team were aiming for an outstanding third trophy of the campaign and a historic three‑in‑a‑row in the competition.

UCC started strongly and were rewarded early in the first half when Isabella Egar opened the scoring. The team controlled possession and tempo throughout the game. While Church of Ireland put up a spirited and determined challenge, UCC remained composed and disciplined across the pitch.

The final whistle confirmed victory and capped off a fantastic season for the Division 3 side, completing a superb treble and cementing their place as one of the standout teams in the club this year.

Division 7 Women – Proud Finalists

Next onto the pitch were the Division 7 women, who finished third in the league and were determined to add silverware to their season. Their opponents, Nenagh, were league champions and went into the game as favourites.

Nenagh struck first with a well-worked goal from the right-hand side, followed by a second to take a 2–0 lead. However, UCC showed tremendous grit and belief, pulling one goal back and giving themselves a real chance of a comeback.

Despite a strong finish and some of their best hockey of the season, time ultimately ran out. While the result didn’t fall their way, it was a performance full of heart, development, and promise—one the squad can be extremely proud of.

Men’s Team – Cup Final Battle Against Strong Opposition

The Men’s team took to the pitch at 2pm against Bandon, a side bolstered by players from Division 1 and EYHL 2, making it a formidable challenge.

UCC started well, moving the ball confidently and matching Bandon for large periods. However, Bandon made their experience count, going into half-time with a 2–0 lead. The lads continued to battle bravely, but Bandon added five more goals in the second half.

In true UCC fighting spirit, the men never gave up and were rewarded with a late consolation goal in the closing minutes. While the scoreline was harsh, it should not overshadow a great season—competing well in Division 2, reaching a cup final, and winning the Mauritius Plate earlier in the season.

Division 2 Women - Treble Done Again

Coached by Mark Mulcahy, the Division 2 side took centre stage at 4pm in the Examiner Cup final against Waterford, completing a hugely successful day for UCC Hockey. Having already secured the League and Cup last season, UCC were chasing an impressive double treble, and they left no doubt about their intent once again.

Captain Siri Forde got UCC off the mark with a superb strike from a corner, setting the tone for a dominant performance. The team maintained their intensity throughout the game, adding two further goals to seal a comprehensive 3–0 victory over Waterford.

The result confirmed yet another treble for the Division 2 side, repeating last year’s remarkable achievement and underlining the consistency, strength, and ambition of this squad. A flawless display on the day ensured that UCC once again swept all three trophies, making no mistake about their pursuit of silverware.

A Season to Celebrate Across the Club

With a possible promotion playoff still to come for the Division 7 team, the competitive season draws to a close on a hugely positive note.

This year has been exceptional for UCC Hockey:

  • League and Cup doubles for the Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3 women
  • Examiner Cup winners – Division 2 women
  • 3/4 Combined Cup winners – Division 3A women
  • Mauritius Plate Winners - Men's team
  • Continued growth and success in Social Hockey, with increasing numbers week after week

Off the pitch, the club has thrived thanks to the commitment and work of the committee and all the members who have supported events.
