Division 1 Women – Munster League
Last Thursday, the Division 1 Women continued their strong league form with an impressive 4–0 victory over Bandon in the Munster Division 1 League.
As part of preparations for the upcoming EYHL2 campaign, which begins next Saturday, the team also faced EYHL1 side Catholic Institute in a high‑intensity friendly over the weekend. The match proved excellent preparation for the speed and physicality expected in the league, with UCC edging a tough contest 3–2.
Division 2 Women – Munster League
The Division 2 Women took on Blackrock on Saturday morning at 11am and delivered a commanding 5–1 win. Player of the Match honours went jointly to Suzie Lowe and Siri Forde, true stalwarts of the side.
This result means the team remains unbeaten in the league. While Harlequins can still mathematically catch them, it would require UCC to lose all remaining games and Harlequins to win all of theirs — a testament to the strength of this squad.
Men’s Friendly
On Sunday, the men faced Midleton in a hard‑fought friendly. UCC led 2–1 in the closing minutes, but Midleton battled back to secure a late equaliser. A valuable and worthwhile test for the lads ahead of their Division 2 league trip to Waterford next weekend.
Club Derby – Division 3A vs Division 3B
Sunday also saw the much‑anticipated in‑club derby between Division 3A and Division 3B.
- 3A came into the match top of the league and unbeaten
- 3B, sitting second from bottom, needed points to steer clear of relegation
The 3Bs came out battling with real determination, as often happens when facing a higher‑ranked team within the club. While the 3As were the stronger side overall, outstanding goalkeeping from Maeve Harney kept the scoreline tight.
The 3As led 1–0 at half time, added another in the third quarter, and pulled away in the final quarter with three further goals. Fitness proved the difference late on, with Sophie Pomeroy completing a hat trick as the match finished decisively in the 3As’ favour.
Women’s 5ths – Munster League
Following the derby, the W5ths welcomed Fermoy to the Mardyke.
- UCC opened the scoring through Hayley Giltinan
- Fermoy responded with an equaliser
It was a great contest, with excellent goalkeeping from Lily O’Regan Lynch and chances at both ends. Ultimately, UCC were more clinical in front of goal and ran out 5–2 winners.
