Public talk by poet Isaac Xubín

The Irish Centre for Galician Studies would like to invite you to two events presented by award-winning poet, novelist and translator Isaac Xubín, which will take place on the 24 th of November 2022.

Gastronomía, cultura e identidad

Lengua, religión o territorio han sido, de forma tradicional, los parámetros fundamentales objeto de estudio alrededor de los cuales se han definido las características o la vitalidad identitaria de las comunidades. Ha sido sólo en época reciente que el foco de los estudios culturales se ha fijado en la relevancia identificadora de todo aquello que acontecía entre fogones. En esta charla intentaré ofrecer unha breve introducción que, desde mi perspectiva como lector y escritor, me ofrece esta visión de la gastronomía en lo que se refiere a la identidad, individual y colectiva.

When There is No Direct Way

As a writer with no academic or formal background in Translation Studies, I learned by instinct and practice. The goal of this talk is to show some of the problems I found during my experience translating both poetry and prose, not only those related to grammar and linguistics but to culture and sociology. Because finding solutions to these issues was not only a way in which I was able to successfully finish a translation job, but also to create and become part of the text
