"Lessons from Argentina: The 2001 Crisis and its Aftermath"

Visiting Speaker: Professor Alan Cibils Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento in Buenos Aires Alan Cibils is Professor and Chair of the Political Economy Department at the Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His research interests include monetary theory and policy, financial systems and economic development, Latin American critical theories of development and Argentina’s debt, default and restructuring. He is the author of numerous publications on these topics and has commented on the implications of the current crisis in Europe. This workshop will take the form of a Q and A session in which the causes and consequences of the 2001 Argentine crisis will be discussed and debated, as well as its legacy and the lessons that can be learned for Europe in the context of the current crisis.
