EuroBorderWalks team take part in the Polish Congress of Sociology

Four members of the EuroBorderWalks project research team took part in the Polish Sociology Congress in Bialystok 15-19th September 2025. 

Prof. Maggie O'Neill spoke in a plenary Borders next to us and borders within us: towards a new sociology of borderlands chaired by Prof. Katarzyna Waniek and co-organised with Prof. Agnieszka Golczyńska-Grondas and Prof. Małgorzata Bieńkowska. Other speakers included Prof. Dorte Jagetic Andersen (Denmark), Prof. Jussi P. Laine  (Finland) Prof. Elżbieta Opiłowska (Wroclaw), and Dr Marta Pietrusińska (Warsaw). Postdoctoral researcher Dr Aleksandra (Ola) Sobanska shared some research findings from her  EuroBorderWalks interviews on the Polish Ukraine border at the conference.  

Prof. Maggie O’Neill spoke in a plenary on The Role of Sociology in the Contemporary World, alongside Prof. Kaja Gadowska, Institute of Sociology of the Jagiellonian University, Poland, President of European Sociological Association, Prof. Geoffrey Pleyers, Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, President of International Sociological Association and Prof. Judit Takács, research professor at ELTE Centre for Social Sciences, Hungary.
