Agnieszka Golczyńska-Grondas and Aleksandra Sobańska presented a paper at the 2nd Methodological Forum of Social Sciences at the University of Łódź, 13–14 May 2025.
In this presentation we reported on our work as part of the Euroborderwalks project. The main objective of the project is to conduct an in-depth sociological mapping of selected locations, including an analysis of the everyday experiences of borderland residents, in our case Polish-Ukrainian, ways of building identity, as well as the experiences of people who regularly cross the border in connection with their work or humanitarian aid. We study phenomena and processes ‘on the borders’ using a bottom-up approach, taking into account social, cultural and historical contexts as well as collective memory. As a Polish team, we focus our work on three locations: Hrubieszów/Zosin – Włodzimierz Wołyński, Przemyśl/Medyka – Szeginie, and Wołosate – Łubnia. The project takes into account the historical context and issues of collective memory shaping the perception of borders and cross-border relations. The project will result in a comparative analysis of phenomena and processes at the aforementioned borders. In addition, recommendations will be prepared for EU social policies in border areas and educational curricula for secondary and higher education institutions.
