EuroBorderWalks at the 2nd Congress of Researchers of Borders and Borderlands in Białystok
Four members of the Polish team of the EuroBorderWalks project – Tomasz Ferenc, Agnieszka Golczyńska-Grondas, Katarzyna Waniek, and Aleksandra Sobańska – took part in the 2nd Congress of Researchers of Borders and Borderlands, held in Białystok on 7–9 September 2026.
During their presentation, entitled “OSMOSIS: The people here – Them – Us”, the team presented the EuroBorderWalks project and screened two films directed by Tomasz Ferenc. The first, “Osmosis” features Robert Gmiterek, a Polish writer and guide, who speaks about his experience of the Polish-Ukrainian borderland. The second film, “Streak” presents the perspective of the village head of Waręż, a Ukrainian border village.
Following the screenings, the panellists shared their reflections, drawing on the categories of “the people here”, “them” and “us”. The films were also discussed by Professor Małgorzata Bieńkowska of the University of Białystok. The session concluded with an open discussion involving the other participants of the congress
