Dr. Pamela Byrne Honoured with University College Cork Alumni Award
University College Cork (UCC) proudly celebrated the achievements of Dr. Pamela Byrne, a distinguished leader in the field of food safety and public health, with an Alumni Award presented by Professor Paul Ross, Director of APC Microbiome Ireland (APC), a world leading Research Ireland centre at UCC.
Dr. Byrne serves as the Chief Executive of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), where she plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and well-being of the public. Her work involves enforcing national food laws, ensuring the integrity of the food supply, and promoting science-based compliance initiatives and strategic partnerships. Under her leadership, the FSAI has been at the forefront of critical issues surrounding food safety, consumer health, and regulatory policy, especially at a time when global attention has been fixed on diet, food safety, and supply chain security.
Dr Byrne’s career, which spans nearly three decades, has been characterised by her dedication to protecting consumer health and shaping public policy on food safety. Her leadership extends beyond national borders, as she has held influential roles with various international organisations, offering her expertise to health and industry sectors alike. Her influence has solidified her position as a global authority in food safety and public health.
Dr. Byrne’s impact is deeply felt at UCC, where she chairs the Governance Committee at APC, one of the world’s leading research centres focused on the microbiome.
