A tribute to Peer Bork
APC Microbiome Ireland was deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Peer Bork, interim Director of EMBL, and acknowledges his outstanding and transformative contributions to microbiome science.
Professor Bork’s pioneering work in computational biology and systems microbiology has fundamentally shaped how we understand microbial communities, their functions, and their impact on human health. His leadership in developing integrative, data-driven approaches has set global standards for microbiome research and enabled discoveries that continue to influence medicine, biology, and bioinformatics worldwide.
We are deeply grateful for his scientific vision, intellectual generosity, and lasting impact on the field, and we acknowledge his role in inspiring and advancing the international microbiome research community.
