Xth Conference of the Association of British and Irish Lusitanists

The Xth Conference of the Association of British and Irish Lusitanists (ABIL) took place in UCC on the 7th and 8th of September 2023. The event addressed a wide range of topics, including climate change, gender violence, the legacies of slavery, urban transformation and transnational mobility. The conference included two keynote sessions: Professor Stephanie Dennison (Leeds University) presented “Brazilian Film Culture and Inclusive Citation: The Case of Afro-Brazilian Horror” and Dr. Emanuelle Santos (Birmingham University) discussed issues of positionality and research in “A Taxonomy of Discomfort: Life at the Intersection of the Subject-Object Epistemic Position.” The congress also included a UCML plenary session, a workshop on postgraduate opportunities, and a social event.
