13 Nov 2023

Fantastic outcome for UCC following Institutional Review by QQI

The final review report was published by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) with the expert panel recognising 39 areas of excellence and offerring some insightful recommendations. UCC was commended for its ambitious Strategic Plan, commitment to sustainability, student supports, and community engagement. The report reflects UCC's dedication to high-quality education, research, services and deep commitment to student partnership and engagement.

Speaking on the publication of the report, Professor Joanne Wright, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) at the University of Sydney, who chaired the UCC review team said:

“The Review team was hugely impressed by UCC’s journey to date, and by the bold and ambitious strategy that it has set out towards 2028.  All sections of the UCC community expressed support for the strategy and its development.  The Review team found the culture of UCC to be supportive and firmly grounded in principles of fairness, transparency and collegiality.  This, the high quality of the leadership team and the fact that all the documentation examined by the Review team was evidence-based and reflective should give confidence that UCC provides a top quality educational environment and an increasingly impactful research output.  It was an honour to be part of this Review and I have brought many ideas back to Sydney, especially around the excellent support provided to students.”

Professor John O’Halloran, UCC President noted: "UCC is delighted to receive its Institutional Review Report and we welcomed particularly the constructive engagement of the Review Panel throughout the site visit, their expertise and care in their evaluation of the university's activities and achievements to date.  I would like to thank all external stakeholders, students, and staff for their fulsome engagement with the review process. I want to acknowledge the work of UCC's Institutional Review Group in coordinating our self-evaluation and submission and thank also colleagues at QQI for their expertise and support throughout."

Elizabeth Noonan, Director of Quality Enhancement Unit, UCC said: “This report is a wonderful endorsement of the quality of UCC’s activities and reflects the dedication and care of its staff in providing and supporting high quality education, research and services.  It also attests to the student-centred focus of our quality activities and a deep institutional commitment to student partnership and engagement”
