Work-Integrated Learning; Strategic Quality Enhancement Project
Ms Elizabeth Noonan, Director of Quality Enhancement presented at the launch of the project.
At the recent launch of the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Strategic Quality Enhancement Project, Ms Elizabeth Noonan, Director of Quality Enhancement, presented on the background to the initiative which arose from the outcomes of a Thematic Review of work placements in 2020. The review was commissioned by the Deputy President, Registrar, and the Director of Student Experience to assess UCC’s existing practices and the potential to enhance these in terms of future scaleability and international good practice. The findings of the expert Review Panel advocated a shift from a traditional focus on work placement to the internationally recognised approach of Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) which would enlarge the range of learning opportunities and contexts for students. In response to the Thematic Review, a Strategic Quality Enhancement Project was established to develop UCC’s adoption of WIL practices. The initiative is led by Ms Clodagh Kerr, WIL Project Manager in collaboration with a community of practice of academic, student and professional staff.
