Dr Peter Jackson and Samantha Ingham presented their research at the Ireland South Women and Infants Directorate Grand Rounds on Friday 19 April.

Dr Peter Jackson presented research he conducted as part of his Master of Public Health at UCC titled ‘Fatal fetal anomaly: Experiences of women and their partners’. Supervised by Dr Stacey Power-Walsh, Dr Rebecca Dennehy and Professor Keelin O'Donoghue, Peter explored the care experiences of parents whose pregnancy was diagnosed with a fatal fetal anomaly following the legalisation of termination of pregnancy in 2019 in Ireland. His resulting paper won a Health Service Executive (HSE) Open Access Research Award in the Acute Care and Hospitals category in 2023. In the preceding year, Peter was awarded oral presentation prizes for this work at the Junior Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society Conference, the UCC College of Medicine and Health ‘From Molecules to People’ Conference, and the 5th All Island Children’s Palliative Care Conference. Dr Jackson was conferred with his Master of Public Health at UCC in March. He is currently an intern at Cork University Hospital.

Samantha Ingham, a final year medical student at UCC, presented on ‘Gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment within obstetrics and gynaecology training’. Samantha won two awards for this work at the reimagined Junior Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society (JOGS) Annual Scientific Meeting 2023, held virtually in February 2024: ‘Best Medical Student Presentation’ and ‘Second Runner Up Oral Presentation’ overall. This research was undertaken for her final year project and was supervised by Professor Keelin O'Donoghue and Dr Sara Leitao, National Perinatal Epidemiology Centre (NPEC).
