First Year M.Plan1

The FIRST YEAR (M.Plan1) introduces students to key planning and sustainable development concepts and principles and develops a range of basic planning skills. All modules are compulsory. For further details of each module, select the module title from the list below.

It explores the practice of planning at various spatial scales (transnational, national, regional, sub-regional, urban, local) and the participatory, democratic and collaborative nature of planning processes.

It also develops an understanding of planning law, the infrastructural requirements of development and the changing nature of housing, shelter and community needs.  In the first year, students explore a range of case study material and develop creative planning ideas through classroom and studio work, seminars from visiting speakers and field trips.

During the summer vacation, students are free to take up planning related placements and / or work on their dissertation ideas for the second year.
