"Sab, the feminist-abolitionist novel and Cuban slavery in the 1830’s"
The novel “Sab”, published by Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda in 1841, is the first (and possibly the only) feminist-abolitionist novel published in Cuba and Spain. It will be discussed in the context of international abolitionism and the rise of sentimental novel as a political tool.
