UCC researchers make global list of highly cited elite science list

16 Nov 2023
Highly Cited Researchers have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research.

14 University College Cork researchers are featured in Clarivate's Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list.

Our Head of College, Professor Helen Whelton, extended her congratulations to the 14 distinguished researchers who have been acknowledged in the prestigious 'Highly Cited Researchers 2023' list.

This global recognition she said underscores their significant influence and impact across diverse fields such as medicine, neuroscience, microbiology, food, psychiatry, and psychology.

Prof. Whelton remarked, "This accolade is a testament to the outstanding work of our researchers. The acknowledgment and reward for their innovative and impactful contributions reinforce UCC's distinct reputation for research excellence”.

It highlights she said “our commitment to advancing knowledge in crucial areas that contribute to a healthier, more sustainable, and secure world”.

This recognition she said is particularly significant as we continue to progress in our UCC Futures thematic areas.

“I take great pride in seeing our researchers acknowledged as global leaders, knowing that their contributions resonate far beyond individual achievements."

The annual list features the researchers in the top 1% of the Web of Science citation index and recognises pioneers in their field whose citation records position them in the very highest strata of research influence and impact.

238 researchers globally have been named in two fields, including UCC’s Professor Paul Ross, Professor John Cryan and Professor Timothy Dinan from APC Microbiome Ireland, a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Research Centre based in University College Cork.
