Opening a Bank Account

It is of great benefit to students to open a bank account as soon as they arrive on campus. The Bank of Ireland in UCC is our partner bank and is very conviently located on campus in the Student Centre (Áras na Mac Léinn). They have ATM cash dispenser machines located outside the Student Centre and the Main Restaurant.

How Do I Open a Bank Account?

To open a new bank account with Bank of Ireland:

How to apply before you arrive in Ireland (known as a Non Resident application)

  1. Email BOI at newaccountopening@boi.com
  2. Recieve BOI first email requesting proof of address
  3. Receive BOI 2nd contact email arranging a day time to speak about your application
  4. Application completed over the phone
  5. Upload your proof of address, proof of identity and source of funds
  6. 3 to 5 working days IBAN details live

Once you arrive at UCC you can then convert your account to a resident student account

How to apply for a bank account when you arrive in Cork

  1. Apply online at www.boi.com - must have an Irish/UK mobile number to apply and access to a camera on your device
  2. Upload your proof of Irish address, proof of identity and source of funds
  3. 3 to 5 working days IBAN details live
  4. Card/Pin will be posted to your Cork address

 For proof of address you can Download your Letter of Attendance.You can only Download your Letter of Attendance after you register. 

 

You can complete the online application form through the Bank of Ireland website.

*Please note the documents required may need to be prepared at home before you arrive in Ireland.  Originals are needed, and copies should also be brought along to help speed up the process.  You may also be asked for additional paperwork.
