Study abroad application forms will be published here in November 2026

  • Application guidelines will be provided during your study abroad information session
  • Not all students apply directly to the International and deadlines may vary
  • Typically students with a mandatory year abroad will apply to their department (not International Office)

Minimum grade requirements

  • A number of degree programmes at UCC require students to meet minimum academic requirements in order to apply to study abroad.
  • This information is subject to change at any stage; every effort is made to keep the details below up to date.
  • All subjects (subjects for your degree programme) with a grade listed on your student record will be included in the calculation of your first- and second-year results, regardless of any change in subject area or major in second year.

Studying outside the EU

(Australia, Canada, USA and Singapore)

60% in 1st year and 60% in 1st semester of 2nd year 

University of California: 70% in 1st year and 70% in 1st semester of 2nd year 

School of Asian Studies students

Your coordinator will discuss your study abroad period with you in semester 1 of 2nd year
BComm (Hons) - CK201 

at least 55% in their first attempt of the First University Examination in Commerce, and  pass all modules and obtain at least 60% in the first semester of the Second University Examination in Commerce.

The number of BComm study abroad placements available each year is limited. As a result, meeting the minimum grade requirements does not automatically guarantee a place on the programme.
Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences 65% in 1st year and 65% in 1st semester of 2nd year (and maintaining this minimum for 2nd year)
Chemistry

Students are required to speak with their academic coordinator in advance of submitting an application

Computer Science

Students are required to speak with their academic coordinator in advance of submitting an application

Mathematical Sciences (CK407)

Students are required to speak with their academic coordinator in advance of submitting an application

Physics 

Students are required to speak with their academic coordinator in advance of submitting an application
