Funding and Scholarships
Scholarships available for outside the EU:
George Mitchell Scholarship- A semester at the University of Maine, USA (open to students studying abroad during 3rd year only)
There is no other funding available for students studying outside the EU via the International Office.
European Mobility - Erasmus Grant
The Erasmus grant is intended as a contribution towards the additional costs of studying abroad. It is not designed to cover all expenses.
Your Erasmus grant is calculated based on the total number of days spent at the host university (1 month = 30 days). Students will be required to submit Arrival and Departure Certificates to UCC confirming the exact study dates.

Countries are grouped by cost of living. The monthly amount depends on the host country.

Top-Up Funding for SUSI/Back to Education Allowance Recipients
Students receiving SUSI or the Back to Education Allowance MAY be eligible for an additional €250 per month.
- Students will be required to provide official confirmation of their SUSI/BTEA award.
- UCC aims to support as many eligible students as possible; however, funding depends on the overall number of applicants and the budget received.
- Final confirmation of top-up eligibility will be issued to students as soon as possible.
Erasmus Travel Grant
Students also receive a one-time travel grant, calculated using the distance between Cork and the host city. To calculate the distance, use the EU Distance Calculator

Note: The “travel distance” represents the distance between Cork and the host city. The “travel amount” covers the contribution to travel both to and from the host city.

Payment of the Erasmus Grant
The Erasmus grant is paid in two instalments.
First Instalment
80% of your total estimated grant.
Paid after your arrive at your host university and submit all required arrival documents.
Final Instalment
The remaining 20% (balance of the recalculated grant)
Paid after your study period, once all final documents have been submitted to UCC.
All payments are lodged directly to the bank account details submitted in the online Erasmus application.
