Study Abroad for UCC Students
Study Abroad for UCC Students
In today's global society, adding an international dimension to your studies will greatly enhance your experience of student life and will prepare you for a better future. A period of study spent abroad will enrich you personally and academically, will offer a significant advantage for your future career and will distinguish you from your competition. UCC offers a wide range of study abroad options across the globe but most particularly in Europe and North America. Through the ERASMUS programme, the University has developed extensive links with partner universities in virtually all member states of the EU. UCC also offers a wide range of links with North American universities and you may now also avail of the opportunity to study in the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico and Singapore.
Europe
The ERASMUS programme enables students from different programmes to undertake up to a year of undergraduate or postgraduate study at a continental University. The linguistic, intellectual, cultural and social value of the period spent abroad has made participation in the programme a highly popular choice for students.
Programmes at UCC which provide for a compulsory year abroad include:
- Arts-Music European, Drama and Theatre Studies - International, European Studies or Language and Cultural Studies options in the BA Programme
- BCL Fench/BCL German/BCL International
- BComm (International) - French/German/Spanish/Italian/Irish
In a number of other degree programmes, such as the BMus, BSc etc., special provision may be made for students to avail of a semester abroad.
In all cases, you will follow a programme at one of our partner institutions in Europe where you will improve your language proficiency and gain insights into other academic, cultural and social systems. On your return to UCC, full academic credit will be awarded for courses taken. You pay no extra fees at the partner University and you will also receive a modest grant.
In 2012/2013 over 200 UCC students will benefit from these programmes, while UCC, in turn, accepts students from partner Universities throughout Europe, adding to the richness of our increasingly international campus. For personal accounts of the programme, click on Student Experience
North America
UCC is involved in a number of scholarship and exchange programmes which enable UCC students to study at a partner University in the United States or Canada. Options currently available include Boston College, the University of California, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Washington College, Salve Regina University and the University of Montana. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Commerce degree have the opportunity to spend the third year of the programme at partner Universities in the US and Canada. BComm students can choose from a number of different options including North Carolina State University, the University of Cincinnati, Suffolk University, Babson College, Pace University and the University of Ottowa Business School.
The Department of Music offers attractive exchange opportunities at Wesleyan University and Wheaton College, while students pursuing the BCL International degree may spend an academic year at Temple University Law School in Philadelphia or St. Louis University Law School in Missouri. In addition, each year one UCC student is selected to study at the University of Maine under the George J. Mitchell Peace Scholarship programme. In recognition of the growing demand for overseas partnerships, UCC is constantly adding to its complement of exchange partnerships in North America and elsewhere.
