Colm Murphy
Biography
Colm Murphy has been involved as a tutor with the School of Music, UCC for over two decades. Best known as a musician for his central role with the seminal traditional ensemble De Dannan, Murphy's distinctive bodhran style has informed the performance and recorded work of many of Irish music's iconic players,including; Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, Máirtín O'Connor, Altan, Cathal McConnell, Jackie Daly, Seamus Creagh, Conal Ó Grada, Eoin Ó Riabhaigh, Tony McMahon and Mary Bergin, amongst others. A "Musician's Musician", his Gael-linn cd of 1986; "AN BODHRAN- THE IRISH DRUM" is seen as representative of the genre, demonstrating his respect for the subtleties of Irish dance music.
