Outline
Through participation in this module, students will ensure an understanding of, and an engagement with, the principal aspects of environmental health and provide an account of the current burden of disease attributable to poor or disrupted environmental health.
During this module students will be provided with an overview of environmental health including a brief mention on international conventions and the framework of "Health in All Policies"; review some fundamental determinants of health (air, food and water); engage with "humanising environmental health" to include human rights and vulnerable populations; understand potential health implications of climate change; review environmental-related diseases and engage with environmental health within the built environment. Throughout the module, students will reflect and analyse various environmental health issues through the lenses of both public and occupational health.
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Apply determinants of environmental health to various public and occupational health issues.
- Evaluate the efficacy and impact of selected environmental health-related conventions, policies or frameworks on protecting health, particularly for the most vulnerable.
- Evaluate the relationship of climate change on health.
- Analyse current trends in environmental-related diseases.
- Critically contribute to a group discussion on topical environmental health issues.
- Investigate and create a policy brief on a topical environmental health issue.
