Cork University Dental School & Hospital, UCC have been ranked in the Top 50–150 Globally in QS Rankings

This recognition highlights the Dental School and Hospitals' continued excellence in dental education, research, and clinical practice on the international stage. The QS World University Rankings by Subject are widely regarded as one of the most influential global ranking systems, assessing universities based on academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact, and international collaboration. UCC’s inclusion in the 51–150 band for Dentistry reflects the School’s commitment to high-quality teaching, innovative research, and patient-centred care.

Congratulations to Professor Christopher Lynch who has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. The Honorary Fellowship is the highest qualification that a Royal College can award. 

The citation for Professor Lynch’s award recognised his outstanding international contribution to dental education, scholarship, and professional leadership - in particular highlighting Professor Lynch’s international reputation as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Dentistry since 2011 and his achievement of Membership of the Royal Irish Academy in 2023 (the latter regarded as the highest academic honour in Ireland). In its 240 year history, Professor Lynch is the 3rd dentist to have been admitted to Membership of the Royal Irish Academy, and the first since 1940.

Filling the evidence gaps in dental care: ‘We need a national oral health survey’

What is the overarching theme of your research? I am interested in how oral health fits into people’s overall health. Our dental and oral health needs are not one-size-fits-all, and they can change quite substantially over the lifespan, or if a person has a medical condition.
