UCC Sanctuary Fellowship Scheme

The aim of the UCC Sanctuary Fellowship Scheme is to provide financial support to PhD researchers, post-doctoral fellows, academics and professional services staff from universities and other third level institutes outside of Ireland who are at risk as a result of conflict or other serious human rights violations.

As we have seen so clearly in places such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen, millions of people are currently displaced as a result of war, conflict and massive human rights violations. As an academic institution and a University of Sanctuary, UCC has an obligation to provide support and protection to our colleagues from other third level institutions in countries facing such threats.

About the Fellowship Scheme

UCC has committed to providing 6 fellows a support package for 6 months. The UCC Sanctuary Fellowship Scheme will provide financial support in the format of a start-up grant of €500 (to cover basic necessities as required), a laptop and monthly salary for at least 6 months.

The level of the monthly salary will be based on the level of seniority of the fellow, and will be between €2,200 and €2,500 per month.

Each fellow will also be linked to a UCC mentor who will act as a focal point to provide social and professional support on a peer-to-peer basis.

Application Process

All applications will be reviewed by a dedicated sub-group of the UCC University of Sanctuary Working Group.

Eligible individuals may submit an expression of interest in the Sanctuary Fellowship Scheme by emailing a copy of their CV and a short outline of research/activities and interests to: sanctuaryfellowship@ucc.ie.

We have received an overwhelming response to the UCC Sanctuary Fellowship Scheme. We are currently reviewing all submissions. Please note we are now closed for additional submissions until further notice.

Please see this page for details on other supports available for Ukranian academics and students.
