Dr Mary O Shaughnessy, UCC , invited guest speaker at the “Co-operatives – The Way Forward” conference jointly organised by NABCo, ICOS and ILCU which took place on May 15^th, 2012, in Dublin.

Rabobank Ireland announced today that it is sponsoring the Rabobank Ireland 2012 Scholarship to the MBS in Co-operative and Social Enterprise. The scholarship has been set up to recognise and celebrate the 2012 UN International Year of the Co-operative.

The Irish credit union movement is celebrated in a recently published book, edited by academics from the Centre for Co-operative Studies and the Department of Geography, University College Cork.  The book was launched by Jimmy Deenihan, T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, on 2^ndDecember 2011 in the headquarters of IRD Duhallow, Newmarket, Co. Cork.

The Centre for Co-operative Studies, University College Cork, hosted its annual Credit Union Summer School last Friday 25^th May. Over 150 delegates attended to hear addresses from a wide range of credit union academics and practitioners.

The Centre also hosted a study visit of members of COEXPHAL (Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producer Organizations of Almería) and funded by the regional government of Andalucía, in southern Spain under the EUROEMPLEO PROJECT-COEXPHAL ON 16^TH -20^th MAY 2011.

Centre for Co-operative Studies/Rabobank Event held in UCC

A public lecture co-hosted by Rabobank Ireland Plc  and the Centre for Co-operative Studies  was held in UCC on the 11^th May. Professor Michael Ward, Director of the Centre,  chaired the event, which had as its keynote speaker Dr. Adrie Zwanenberg, a PhD graduate of the Department of Food Business & Development, UCC and currently Managing Director of Investor Relations for the Rabobank Group. 

The Centre for Co-operative Studies, in association with the National Supervisors’ Forum, organised a special Summer School for Credit Union supervisors on the 7th May 2011 in UCC.

A very successful Summer School on the MSocSc Third Sector Management programme and co-ordinated by Centre for Co-operative Studies staff took place from March 31^st to April 2nd. 

The annual UCC Credit Union Summer School took place on Friday 1st April 2011. The theme of this year’s event was ‘Credit Union Stabilisation and Liquidity’ and featured Prof. Donal McKillop of Queen’s University Belfast, David Kielty of the Central Bank, Kevin Johnston, CEO of the Credit Union Development Association and Mark Bailey, President of the Irish League of Credit Unions.

The 2^nd annual Irish Rural Studies Symposium took place in University College Cork (UCC) on August 31^st, 2010. The symposium was hosted by the Centre for Co-operative Studies in conjunction with the Rural Economy Research Centre (RERC), Teagasc.

Call for papers: Special issue on Ireland

Journal of Co-operative Studies

This special issue of the Journal of Co-operative Studies, for publication in 2019, targets research on and developments in co-operatives in Ireland. Papers sought include full-length academic articles, short reports by practitioners/others as well as think pieces and book reviews.
