Nayyer is a postdoctoral Researcher with APC Microbiome Ireland and Cancer Research @UCC under the mentoring of Prof Mark Tangney. She attained her master's degree and PhD from Umea University, Sweden, in Molecular Biology. She also has a Master's in Microbiology from Tehran University, Iran. Nayyer moved to Ireland as an APEX Fellow in 2020, as part of an EU Marie Curie fellowship co-funded by Breakthrough Cancer Research.

Project

Only recently is it emerging that the symbiotic relationship between humans and bacteria plays a role in many diseases including cancer. This project aims to understand the effect of Bacterial Membrane Vesicles (BMVs) released by gut microbiota on cancer. Profiling of the secreted BMVs has potential for use as a new biomarker for cancer diagnosis or therapy.
