UCC Three Minute Thesis Competition 2024

Are you a doctoral researcher who wishes to develop as a confident research communicator by sharing your research with a diverse audience?

UCC’s annual Three Minute Thesis competition is now accepting video submissions from postgraduate researchers, with the winner representing UCC at the national Irish Universities Association (IUA) Three Minute Thesis finals in the 2024/25 academic year.

The Office of Vice President for Research & Innovation, and the Dean of Doctoral Studies, now invite submissions from current UCC doctoral students.

How to enter? 

  • Visit our website and read the competition guidelines.
  • Create a three-minute video file from a static slide with audio.
  • Enter your details and upload your video file using the submission form.
  • The deadline for competition entries is 5pm on Friday May 31st, 2024.

Dr Orla Lynch, Dean of Doctoral Studies, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for students to share their research with the UCC community, and it also gives them the opportunity to refine their presentation skills in preparation for their viva voce examination."

Professor John F. Cryan, UCC Vice President for Research and Innovation said: "The inaugural Three Minute Thesis competition in 2023 was a huge success, providing a platform for doctoral students to enhance their communications skills by presenting their research to a diverse audience using modern communication methods. I look forward to seeing the competition grow further in 2024."
