What is audiology?

Audiology is a clinical therapeutic profession that deals with the identification, diagnosis and treatment of all hearing and balance related disorders.

Audiologists work in hospitals, primary care centres, community centres and private practices. Hearing and balance related disorders are complex with medical, psychological, physical, social, educational, and employment implications therefore treatment services require audiologists to have knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, as well as interpersonal skills to counsel and guide patients and their family members through the rehabilitative process leading to improved quality of life.

About MSc Audiology

The MSc Audiology is a two year, full-time programme. The programme uses the learning and teaching methods that best supports students to develop the knowledge, skills and professional attributes designed to qualify students to practice the profession of audiology

The aim of the MSc. Audiology is to educate, train and inspire confident clinicians who can meet the challenges of providing an integrated, sophisticated and scientific approach to assessing and managing the needs of children and adults with hearing and balance disorders.

The constantly advancing and evolving nature of healthcare requires that our programme not only prepares students for current healthcare practice but that it produces graduates who will act as agents for future change and progress. We therefore aim to equip our graduates with the clinical and research skills, and professional attributes required to work and develop as competent practitioners, researchers and agents for change within the evolving healthcare environment.

The programme is full-time over three semesters per year, over the two years. Students should expect to attend a mixture of lectures, PBL tutorials, seminars, clinical observations, simulations and supervised clinical work from 9 am to 5 pm daily, with some time dedicated to independent learning, during semesters 1 & 2.
