Alex Kendellen starts for UCC Rugby
UCC Rugby has announced its team for the Blackrock College vs UCC Rugby game on Saturday 29th November. Selected at Number 8 is current Ireland International and Munster Rugby player Alex Kendellen. Alex has not been named in a Munster matchday squad so far this current URC season; he has been out with an ankle injury and only recently returned to training.
The last current Ireland Men's International to play for College was Donal Linehan in 1980. Three Ireland Women's Internationals (Geraldine Rea, Alison Miller and Zoe Grattage) played for Ireland during the 2011-2019 period while playing for UCC Rugby.
Earlier this summer Munster Head Coach Clayton McMillan committed that Munster players would be made available to their AIL clubs when returning to fitness or not making Munster matchday squads. Ben O’Connor has been the most visible example for UCC Rugby in that he has lined out for UCC Rugby anytime this season that he has not been selected for a Munster game. However, Kendellen’s selection for UCC Rugby’s match this weekend is a clear statement that McMillan is committing action to his words. This can only be good for the entire club game in Munster.

Sean Dunne, Stephen O’Shaughnessy, Daniel McCarthy, Sam O’Sullivan (Captain) Jason Aherne, Sean Edogbo, Dawid Nowak, Alex Kendellen
