UCC Hockey Teams Continue Strong Performances Across Competitions
Division 2 W
The Division 2 team faced Cork Harlequins in the Munster Senior Cup Semi-Final last weekend. Despite their dominant form in the Division 2 league this season, they were narrowly defeated 2-0 by the top-tier side. UCC put up a strong defensive performance, with standout goalkeeping from Faye Luby. Cork Harlequins had to work hard for their goals, and UCC had a chance to score from a corner in the third quarter but couldn’t convert. The team now looks ahead to the Cork Examiner Cup this Saturday, where they will face Belvedere. With a recent 2-0 victory over Cork Harlequins in the Division 2 Cup, the side is hopeful of ending the season with more silverware.
Division 3 W
The Division 3 team had a weekend off as their Munster League match against Cork Wanderers was postponed due to poor pitch conditions. This Saturday, they return to action with a home game against C f I at the Mardyke, with a 12pm start. Sitting in 2nd place behind Clonmel with five games remaining, the team must win all their remaining fixtures to have a chance of claiming the league title.
Division 4 W
The Division 4 team enjoyed a successful weekend, securing a 3-0 victory over Cork Harlequins in the Munster Cup. Despite challenging windy conditions, UCC put in a strong performance to advance to the last 8, with their next cup fixtures scheduled for late March. In the Munster League, the team fought hard for a 2-2 draw against Crescent the previous weekend. Currently 2nd in the league on goal difference, UCC must win their remaining games, including a crucial match against Tipperary this Sunday, to secure the league title.
