Last weekend saw 6 out of 7 wins for the club.
W1sts played in a thrilling match against Cork Harlequins at the Mardyke. The visitors started well but a goal against the run of play put UCC in the lead. Winning several corners, Quins got one back through a direct shot from a corner. It was end to end stuff with good hockey played by both sides. UCC got the rub of the green and scored a second goal and came out winners in a crucial game of the season.
The Men’s 1sts played their first league game of the season against Ashton away. There were goals galore with the men winning 6-3. A strong start for them as they look forward to their Irish Challenge Cup game on Saturday against Midleton.
The Division 2A beat Cork Wanderers 5-1. Wanderers scored early in the first few minutes through a corner but the student side settled and were dominant throughout scoring 5.
The 2B team welcomed Catholic Institute who were recently relegated from Division 1. It took the students a while to get to grips with the game. The final score here was 1-3.
The Division 4 side played Cork Harlequins in the Mardyke. With a second win in the bag it has been a strong start to the league for this team. FT 3-0
The Division 6 side welcomed Waterford to the Mardyke. With only 10 players Waterford were up against it. An emphatic win for the student side gives them a strong start to the season.
The Division 7 side played their first game of the season. A 1st year group and playing for the first time together they had an impressive start with a 3-1 win against Midleton.
It’s a quieter weekend with 4 games being played over the weekend.
