🏑 UCC Hockey News

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for UCC Hockey, with standout wins, close contests, and promising signs across all squads:

🔴 Women’s Teams

  • W1sts delivered a commanding 9-0 win in the Munster League, holding firm at the top of the table. A special moment for Isabel Lyons, who netted her first goal for the club in her fifth year — a well-deserved milestone!
  • Division 2 Women secured a confident 5-0 victory over Cork Wanderers — a team they’ve historically struggled to score against. A great display of experience vs. youth.
  • Division 3A looked strong in the Div 3/4 Combined Cup, defeating Ashton 6-0 at home. A performance that cements their status as serious contenders.
  • Division 3B, in a different group of the same competition, narrowly lost 1-0 to a well-organised Clonmel side. Despite a slow start, they battled hard and were unlucky not to equalise.
  • W5ths made their debut trip to Thurles to face Nenagh in the Division 7 League. This newly formed team showed great potential, narrowly losing 1-0 after a converted stroke. They’ll be back in action this Saturday at 4:30pm, away to Ashton.

🔵 Men’s Team

  • The Men’s side had a weekend off but return to action this Saturday, facing Ashton away at 12:30pm. With a full panel of 18 players, it’s a fantastic sign of growth and momentum for the men’s section of the club.

🎉 Club Celebration – 30 Years On

This Saturday evening, UCC Hockey celebrates a special milestone — 30 years since both the men’s and women’s teams won the Intervarsities in Cork. All are welcome to join the celebration at 7:30pm in the Pavilion. A great chance to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate the club’s legacy!
