UCC Hockey Club Weekly Round-Up

W1sts vs Cork Harlequins
In one of the most anticipated fixtures of the season, the Women’s 1sts took on title rivals Cork Harlequins last weekend. A dominant first half saw UCC take a 2–0 lead thanks to goals from Amy Nangle and Lauren Cripps. The second half was scrappy, with Harlequins snatching a goal from a last-second corner. Despite the tight finish, UCC secured the win. Player of the Match went to Lucy Nixon for her outstanding performance in goal, with Leah Hayes also impressing throughout.

M1sts vs Bandon
The Men’s 1sts travelled to Bandon with a full squad and put on a show, securing a comprehensive 7–1 victory—their first win in over two seasons. It was a battle of youth versus experience, with UCC’s young guns dominating. Man of the Match Ben Horgan netted an incredible four goals, leading the charge in what was a much-needed morale boost.

Women’s Div 2 vs Ashton
The Women’s Div 2 side kicked off their season with a solid 3–0 win over Ashton. After a strong 2024 campaign, coach Mark Mulcahy and his squad are aiming to pick up where they left off—and they certainly started on the right foot.

Div 3/4 Combined Cup
Before the league begins in November, both our Div 3A and 3B teams got their cup campaigns underway with encouraging results.

  • 3A defeated Crescent 5–1 in a dominant performance.

  • 3B edged out Cork Harlequins 2–1 in a closely contested match.
Both teams will be hoping to build momentum heading into the league season.

New Team Debut: W5ths
This weekend sees our newly formed W5ths team travel to Nenagh for their first competitive outing. With huge demand for hockey at UCC—especially on the women’s side—this fifth team is a welcome addition, though we’re still not able to meet the full appetite for places. A great sign of the club’s growth!
