Weekend Hockey Round‑Up
It was a mixed bag of results across the club this weekend, with strong performances, tough battles, and plenty still to look forward to as the season approaches its final stages.
Division 7 – Strong League Win
The Div 7 team got off to an excellent start with a 6–0 win over Midleton in their league fixture, Hayley Giltinan getting a hat trick.
They remain 3rd in the table with one game left to play — away to Belvedere on 11th April.
They also look ahead to the Cup Final vs Nenagh, a great opportunity to close out the season on a high.
Men’s Team – Cup Action & Tough Double Weekend
The Men played C of I C in the Munster Junior Cup, conceding two early goals and another later in the match, finishing in a 3–0 defeat.
They then travelled to Limerick on Sunday for their final league match against Catholic Institute. Falling 3–0 behind, they showed huge resilience to fight back to 3–2, but ran out of time to complete the comeback.
Despite the results, it has been a very positive year with:
- A McClean Cup Final ahead (against C of I C again)
- A Mauritius Plate win
- A strong and competitive league campaign
EYHL2 – Important Win Over Harlequins
UCC took on Cork Harlequins at home. An early goal from Nicole Clarke put UCC ahead. Harlequins were awarded a penalty stroke in Q3, saved by Faye Luby.
UCC responded with three more goals to secure a convincing victory.
They now have two away fixtures remaining:
- Ards – 11th April
- University of Galway – 18th April
The league remains extremely tight with four teams competing for two promotion spots.
Division 3A – First Loss of the Season
The Div 3A team played their penultimate league game away to Bandon.
Having met three times previously — all UCC wins — and with the league already wrapped up, the team struggled to find rhythm.
A single Q3 goal from Bandon was enough to hand UCC their first defeat of the season.
While the undefeated record is gone, it has still been a phenomenal year, with the league title already secured.
Division 2 Women – Big Final Win
Division 2 Women played their last league match of the season against Belvedere, finishing in style with a comprehensive 0–7 victory. A brilliant way to close out their league campaign.
Next Weekend
With the Easter break, there are no fixtures scheduled.
