Last weekend was overshadowed by the Orange Weather Warning over the South West of the country. With Ulster Elks travelling to play UCC at the Mardyke, the game was brought forward to a 12pm tip off to try and avoid some of the heavy rains expected. Conditions deteriorated as the game went on but the students ploughed through. Elks scored in the 2 nd quarter with an individual run up the middle of the field finishing with a shot and on target, 0-1. They followed with a second goal in the third quarter with a deflection from a short corner shot. The game finished 0-2. UCC head to Loreto next weekend and are still looking for their first points of the season.

The men's game was postponed due to heavy rains as was the Div 3 game against Cashel New Inn in the Div 3/4 Combined Cup.  Division 3 and men's Division 2 have a weekend off with no games scheduled for either team.

Sunday saw the Division 2 side play their second league game against Ashton in Blackrock. The students scored most of their goals in the 1st quarter. They were very dominant finishing with another 0-7 win in their league run (Scorers: Alex Kenny, Suzi Uniacke Lowe, Anna Collins, Ella Lehane, Isabelle Martin 2, Nicole Clarke). Next Sunday sees them play Ashton B again, tip off 12pm in the Mardyke.

Division 4 played their first game against Cork Harlequins on Sunday in the Div 3/4 Combined Cup. The students had a full strength 18 player panel. Finding it difficult to score the students didn't find the back of the net until the final quarter with a goal from Emer Bradley. Aisling Curtin, in goal, kept the college in it at times with some great saves at the other end. This team play their second game of the cup against Waterford on Sunday at 2.30pm at the Mardyke.

This Month is breast cancer awareness month and as tradition UCC hockey will be raising money for Breast Cancer Ireland. This year we’ve decided to organise a Pink run on Wednesday the 16th of October for ALL members of the club. The run will be 4km leaving from the Mardyke at 8am, up the Lee fields and back to the Mardyke again with everyone dressed in pink ! We kindly ask for a €3 donation and when you donate you’ll be entered into a draw to win one of two €25 vouchers for Léas. We hope to see everyone there or meet for a coffee in Bean and Leaf after.
